The Witch of Portobello

i just recently finished reading this book and captivated the pilgrim's heart in me.

the witch of portobello is a fiction work by brazilian writer paulo coelho published in 2007, about a woman born in transylvania to a romani mother, who is orphaned and later adopted by a wealthy lebanese couple.

an excerpt from the witch of portobello p. 12
we women, when we're searching for a meaning to our lives or for the path ofknowledge, always idenitfy with one of four classic archetypes.

the virgin is the one whose search springs from her complete independence, and everything she learns is the fruit of her ability to face challenges alone.

the martyr finds her way to self-knowledge through pain, surrender, and suffering.

the saint finds her true reason for living in unconditional love and in her ability to give without asking anything in return.

finally, the witch justifices her existence by going in search of complete and limitless pleasure.

"if it is was written that we would meet again, we would. the important thing is to allow fate to intervene in our lives and to decide what is the best for everyone."
