Late Night TV Watching - KKK

yesterday night at around 9.30pm, i was watching the pilot episode of "only you" with my sister. during commercial breaks, she hopped from one channel to another, and then came across with channel 7. we curiously stick to it.

it was a debate structured program titled "kuro-kurong kabataan" (KKK) hosted by atty. karlo nograles and monique musni. i hope i got their names right. i am not too sure if it was a new episode, since we were able to view a part of it only, near the ending. this was held at usep social hall and was participated by the usepians themselves. there were also 3 guest (i think they were...) professors from different universities who gave their views, reactions and clarifications on the topic as well.

i was listening attentively to their discussion on the revival of death penalty in the country in terms of practicality and its benefits, and how the students made their stand with their respective houses the affirmative and negative. it is noted that the capital punishment of the country is life imprisonment.

the affirmative house said that if a person is convicted of life imprisonment, that person is of zero-valued since it could no longer contribute to the society because he was confined behind bars. they have raised that implementation of the said law does not mean that the government is anti-life but instead would like to preserve and secure the life of the majority. furthermore, they have given due emphasis that death penalty does not take away the right to live of a convicted person and he/she deserved it because they have engaged into heinous crime and have taken their victim's right to live also. "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth".

on the other hand, the negative house believed that death penalty will not lessen the current crime rates and will not lure bad elements not to engage into this unlawful activities. furthermore, death penalty does not answer the root causes of these problems. thus, implementation of the said law has no direct relationship to country's crime rates. perhaps, the government must seek alternative solution to answer these predominant social problems which led to violence. finally, a crime can not be corrected with another crime, of which the government has to kill a murderer, a rapist and the like to attain social justice. punishment of life-time imprisonment is hard enough for a convicted person. they pointed out that "habang may buhay may pag-asa". with life imprisonment, they are given chance for transformation, repentance and enlightenment. above all, nobody is perfect and everyone has to be forgiven.

it was really a heated debate of different views! =)

happy watching ^^

Take Five

lately, i was into movie watching. here are the recent 5 movies i have seen. i find The Race to Witch Mountain fun to watch, a movie for all ages! The Reader was a holocaust fiction with a heart-felt story. another movie on my list Bride Wars, a romantic chick-flick! i really like kate hudson on her wedding dress! i have seen Eagle Eye and was captivated by its plot as well as its visual effects. lastly, The Revolutionary Road was a spirit-liberating story. we really see things differently. i definitely love this movie!

The Race to Witch Mountain
"The race is on."

For years, stories have circulated about a secret place in the middle of the Nevada desert, known for unexplained phenomena and strange sightings. It is called Witch Mountain, and when a Las Vegas cab driver (DWAYNE JOHNSON) finds two teens with supernatural powers in his cab, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure he can't explain. Working together, Jack and his young passengers discover that the only chance to save the world lies in unraveling the secrets of Witch Mountain, the race begins.

The Reader
"How far would you go to protect a secret?"

The Reader opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair.

Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from “The Odyssey,” “Huck Finn” and “The Lady with the Little Dog.” Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.

Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna’s past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. THE READER is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.

Bride Wars
"Even best friends can't share the same wedding day."

Liv and Emma are best friends who since childhood have planned every detail of their respective weddings. At the top of their bridal "must have" list: a ceremony at New York's ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel.

Now, at age 26, they're both about to get married; they're about to realize their dreams; and they're about to live happily ever after.

Or maybe not...

When a clerical error causes a clash in wedding dates--they're now to be married on the same date!--Liv, Emma and their lifelong friendship are put to the ultimate test. Liv, a successful lawyer who is used to getting what she wants, including the perfect job and the perfect man, won't settle for anything less than the perfect wedding she has dreamed of for years. Emma, a schoolteacher who has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself, discovers her inner Bridezilla and comes out swinging when her own dream wedding is imperiled.

Now, the two best friends who'd do anything for each other find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners struggle that threatens to erupt into all-out war.

Eagle Eye
"If you want to live you will obey."

Jerry Shaw and Rachel Holloman are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations--using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening. Fighting for their lives, they become pawns of a faceless enemy who seems to have limitless power to manipulate everything they do.

The Revolutionary Road
"How do you break free without breaking apart?"

Frank and April have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on Revolutionary Road, they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era.

Frank and April have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on Revolutionary Road, they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era.

Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn’t expect: a good man with a meaningless job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other.

Driven to change their fates, April hatches an audacious plan to start all over again, to leave the comforts of Connecticut behind for the great unknown of Paris. But when the plan is put in motion, each spouse is pushed to extremes – one to escape whatever the cost, the other to save all that they have, no matter the compromises.

It's a Monday. Back2Work

holy week is over, everybody's back to work.
(i hope everyone had a meaningful week!)

first things first. i checked my emails of which i have 2 active personal emails and 3 other emails for work related purposes communication. i signed in on my yahoo messenger account thinking that someone might have left messages over the weekend and visited my "blogspot". whew, just missed writing something in here.

after an hour or so, i was really into reading some articles, studying on terms and digesting definitions of which has led me to information overload at that time. then, an unexpected text message came from my sister ate che, breaking the news that my brother macmac has decided to worked at riyadh, k.s.a. as a waiter and was told to go home earlier than expected because we need to talk about it as a family.whew.

i was a bit blue by that news. if this will be pushed through i will surely miss my brother. at first, i really do not like the idea because he has not finished his college degree yet. bugoy man gud! sige dula ug RPG! he is turning 24 this coming may. i almost forgot... he is old enough to decide to whatever, whichever he wants or needs to do. it seems that everything is a GO. no need to talk about it. my parents explained to me that sthis might be an answered prayer. he does not want to go to school for the moment. no plans at all. with this offer to work abroad,it changed him...maybe the eagerness and his decisiveness to work. as commonly said, "opportunity knocks only once". maybe the is IT! hmm, other questions keep popping on my mind...hmmm...

i guess if it is meant for him, then everything will fall into its places. i believe god has greater plans in mind for him...and we need to support him as a family. may this brought him to greater heights of his personal encounter with the one above.
